British Parliament expresses concern about human rights in Russia
Khodorkovsky defence lawyers Anton Drel and Robert Amsterdam claim the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s 2005 report on Human Rights “fails to connect the tragedy of Russian human rights today with the overall deterioration in the Corruption Perception Index as reported by Transparency International.” Drel and Amsterdam claim: “[The] corruption of the state administration… is a propulsive force behind the deterioration both in judicial independence and overall judicial corruption.”
