Russian NGO Calls Attention of the All-Russian Civic Congress to Khodorkovsky and Lebedev Case

The independent Sovest group NGO has requested that participants in the All-Russia Civic Congress join its appeal to Yuri Kalinin, Federal Penitentiary Service [FSIN] Director. The appeal calls for changing the places of imprisonment for Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev from the penal colonies where they are currently serving out their sentences.
The following leading figures have joined the appeal: Lyudmila Alekseeva, Moscow Helsinki Group Chairman; Igor Yakovenko, Journalists’ Union Secretary General; Evgenia Albats, journalist; Viktor Shenderovich, writer; Garry Kasparov, Committee 2008 Head and co-director of United Civil Front; Georgy Satarov, INDEM Foundation Head; Gleb Yakunin, priest; political parties’ leaders; and other well-known figures as well as a number of ordinary citizens.
The addition of signatures to the appeal has continued throughout the day.
