The lawyers would like nobody to interfere with their work. Tomorrow, the fate of Karinna Moskalenko’s lawyer’s status will be made clear.

Then, the Moscow Bar Association’s qualifications committee will give its opinion on the Prosecutor General’s office recent initiative to disbar Karinna Moskalenko.

According to the Prosecutor General’s office, Moskalenko provided ineffective counsel to Khodorkovsky and was rejected by the jailed businessman himself. In reply, Moskalenko stated that under Russian law, the presence of an attorney when a case file is reviewed by a defendant is a right, but not mandatory and must be agreed beforehand with the defendant. “There were no claims on the part of my client,” she stressed.

Moskalenko regards the move by the Prosecutor General’s office as part of a pattern of harassment to discredit the legal team for Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev.

At her request, lawyer Yuri Schmidt will be Moskalenko’s representative tomorrow.
