Strasbourg turns down Russian government appeal
The European Court of Human Rights has announced that on 2 June 2008 five judges of the Grand Chamber decided not to satisfy the request of the Russian government that the Grand Chamber examine the 25 October 2007 decree issued by the Court in response to Platon Lebedev’s first appeal to Strasbourg.
That decree recognised that Mr Lebedev’s rights had been violated. As a consequence of the judges decision on 2 June the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights concerning the unlawful detention of Platon Lebedev has come into force.
